Homeowners spending more on DIY
A new report shows British homeowners are spending £1000 more on home improvements than they did last year.
The report has been published by mortgage lenders Halifax, and shows that 56% of all homeowners are doing some sort of improvements on their home and have on average spent a total of £6362 over the last twelve months, which is £1000 more than last year.
Decorating was the main improvement being done in the home, with 65% of DIYers picking up a paintbrush or hanging wallpaper. Garden improvements remained the second most popular project.
The report showed that the largest amount of money was spent on a new kitchen at £6609, whilst new windows and double glazing came in second at £3646. A new bathroom was third at £3396 and the spend was lowest on home security at £864.
