A recent survey by Churchill Home Insurance revealed that 1 in 7 of us still prefer to hire in people to do home improvements and related domestic chores despite the economic climate.

The survey of 2030 adults also showed that 64% of this number regularly employ gardeners to do much of the work – from bigger tasks such as landscaping – but also including mowing the lawn! A similar number also pay for regular cleaning services.

“Even in these difficult times, house-proud Britons are finding the extra cash to help keep their homes pristine,” noted Martin Scott, head of the insurance firm.

As weekends are often the only time that many of us have to do DIY, this could explain the level of employment in these areas as these services are invaluable time savers.
