National Shed Week

Posted on July 5, 2011 by DIY Doctor

Congratulations to Jon Earl from Clevedon N Somerset who has won Shed of The Year for the unusual use of his shed.

Originally a billet hut from the First World War, Jon turned his shed into an unusual musical venue in 2009. Jon set up his Songs from the Shed website, and started by inviting bands to play in the shed where he records and videos the sessions before uploading onto his website.

Since then, Jon’s shed has been the venue for over 1000 musicians including such stars as Steve Harley and Fairport Convention, and even a 26 strong gospel choir – which must have been very cosy as Jon’s shed is just 12ft by 10ft!

Judge Sarah Beeny said “This is what a shed should be – full of interesting things that you’re not quite sure what you’ll ever do with.”

Jon has said that the prize of £1000 prize from wood preservative company will be put to good use to spruce up his shed which has ‘bit of a woodworm problem’.

Do you have an unusual use for your garden shed for? Let us know and send pictures too!
