1930s Concrete Porch Cracking

Post by Barkered » Sun Sep 02, 2018 7:15 pm

Hello.

Bit of advice please, I had a porch removed off the front of my property, which revealed an original concrete porch (Just over the top of the door, not an entire surround).

There are cracks going through the edges and the top (looking like it's moving apart in places) and I was hoping to keep it in place as I can see there are steel renforcement bars within the structure and I have a feeling that taking it down might cause damage to the main structure of the property.

I am not too fussed about appearance as I am planning to cover the structure again with a new wooden canopy porch but ideally I want to ensure any cracking or movement is halted before I cover it up again.

I had a thought of strapping using heavy duty flat steel straps across it to hopefully pull and hold it together.

So question is really...Is this a stupid idea or might it do the trick?

Many thanks!
