Advie on possible penetrating damp

by turnbullgw » Mon Jun 01, 2009 8:21 pm

In my bedroom I have a problem.

Inside the fitted wardrobes, on the internal corner of the house, I have an issue with damp.

It turned up a few moths ago.
I have hanging tiles on the front of my house. One of these tiles, which is close to this area, came off but was replaced almost immediately.

There is a rainpipe above the area, but no downpipe.

I have read lots about this problem.

The only thing I wonder is that the fitted wardrobes are old. Due to this, there was quite a draught coming through the joints. we decided to tape up these joints o prevent this draught.

Now is this a damp problem or could it to be with condensation?

with no air getting in there anymore. The problem did occur in autumn/winter.

any ideas, polite ones, would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like lack of ventilation to me.

You only get condensation where you have two things!
One is warm humid air!
The other is a cold surface.
Once you sealed off the inside of the cupboard the flow of warm air stopped and the inside became cold.
Merely open it up again and for a while leave the door open.
If you can introduce heated air into the cupboard to warm all surfaces.
Now that summer days are here again the problem will go away until next winter.
But then, you will remember!
