Allow for rain bounce - is this a real thing?

Postby Moorfolk » Mon Aug 22, 2022 8:56 pm

we are having alterations due and an extension.
The builder has reconfigured our entrance to the front door by putting a 6 inch drop out of the front door onto a step and then this step goes back up to the path. I said I want the step to be level comming out of the door
but he insists we have to allow for "rain bounce" and dropped the drop by 6 inches??

I have never heard of this term has anyone else??

Hi moorfolk,
Rain bounce is a real thing and it's the reason why a DPC should be at least 150mm above surrounding ground level.
Possibly you could get away with a path level area directly outside your door but will have to accept dirt splatter on the door due to rain bounce.
