Backing board for outside wall lights

by AjayK46 » Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:18 am

I need an appropriate hardwood backing board to mount two external wall lights on.

Each would need to be 22cm x 18cm and a thickness of about 3cm.

What wood should I use and what is going to be the most economical way to purchase something appropriate.

I don't know much about what minimum sizes timber comes in so would appreciate advice.

Thanks

Hi Ajay

If you have a timber yard near you then that would be the best place to head for. They will also cut the timber to size for you, although the lengths are usually sold by the metre so you will have a lot of waste and expense.

You may be lucky though and they may have some off cuts.
Also try local hardware type shops, they sometimes sell a small selection of timber and also may have an offcut, probably not much in the way of hardwood though so good luck

If I can't get hardwood is there any softwood alternative that would be ok outdoors?
