Bad smell underfloor boards in hallway and living room

Post by cattonmariner » Sun Feb 22, 2009 9:15 pm

For the past few monthsthere has been a foul smell coming from the skirting boards/floorboards in the hallway and living room on the ground floor. We originally thought it was a dead rodent - but the smell it not dissapating. The smell seems to be spreading further. There is a small hole in our kitchen wall where a phone cord has been threaded through - the smell is also coming from here. We are not sure who to call out to investigate. The smell is rancid!

If it smells like sewage go outside, lift your manhole covers and see if the chamber(s) are full. If they are you have a blockage and the soil is seeping through the brickwork in the chamber and under the house. Rod the pipes to try and shift it. You may have to call a drain cleaning company out if you can't move it.

If its not that you could give the Environmental Health people a call at the council.
