Bathroom Celling - Can I Remove to Square up Ceiling?

Can anyone tell me what this from the picture and can it be removed to make the ceiling more square ?
any advice on removal would be appreciated,This is a 1930s council house back in the day. the celling slopes to the window and back wall.

Would appreciate any adivce

no you cant remove it, its the hip joist and removing it will cause structural damage. You could screw wood battens to the ceiling to level it, and cover it with plasterboard
