boiler problem

by geojul » Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:55 am

I have a alpha ocean 240eco combi boiler which works fine with heating, the problem is when I use the thermostatic shower, it runs O.K. all the time the shower is on but as soon as you turn off the shower the boiler goes out. It will re-light no problem, I have run the hot tap at sink and turned off and that is fine boiler is still lit, it just seems to be everytime you turn off the shower no pilot light, any ideas what is causing this??

Boiler over-heating or faulty overheat stat.

ok, thanks for the info, but why would it only do it after using shower, if it was overheating/faulty stat should it not also do it when running hot tap in kitchen??

Not necessarily, when you open the hot tap it'll probably be a full bore, when you use the shower you'll be mixing hot and cold, if the hot water flow is restricted this may be why the boiler is overheating as there's too much heat in the boiler

O.K.thanks for your info. , would reducing cold water pressure or reducing hot water temperature setting at boiler help in any way?, or is it just time for a new boiler??
