Brickwork inside old coal fireplace

Postby Laura87 » Fri May 15, 2020 10:20 am

Hello. We have moved into a house with an old coal fireplace, we were told when we moved in it is not in working order as it needs repointing. We would like to replace with a logburner eventually but this will be a few years away. So for now I just want to make it look nice. The facade and mantel are in good condition, but the brickwork inside is in poor, crumbling condition, with bricks discoloured etc. I would have liked to paint the bricks up but I'm not sure if this would work or actually help much as to one side the crumbling is bad. Is there anything I can easily and cheaply do to make it look smart for now? Thank you for any help!

Hi laurs87,
Suggest you clean down and then render the inside of the fireplace.
