Building piers for block garage build

Post by v6scorpion » Mon Aug 24, 2020 8:44 pm

Im building a single skin workshed in back garden, 7m x 4m out of 140mm thick blocks? Question i have is would i need to build piers if i built it 140mm high and 215mm face down so width of walls will be 215mm i know you have to build piers if using 100mm blocks single skin? And if i built it other way would i need piers if 140mm width rather than my first option? Thanks

Hi v6scorpion
If you are building a single storey wall with returns either end and are using concrete blocks (as opposed to aerated concrete) then if laying the blocks flat to create a 215 thick wall you will not need piers.
If you are going to use aerated concrete blocks or reduce the thickness to 140mm you will probably need a central pier.

Sorry for the late reply, thanks. Returns either end? Yes dense blocks are being laid face down so 215mm wide walls.
