Can I Remove or Reposition Timber Roof Cross Braces - Advice on Options Needed

by rhino666 » Wed Jan 06, 2016 1:10 pm

Please see photo of part of my timber cut roof, installed in 1970.
It has cross braces on every 4 rafters. They make use of the large loft space difficult because of their position and height. I would like to remove them or reposition them higher up in the roof space. They sit on the support but are only nailed to the rafters at each end.
What are my options here please.

Thanks

Rob

Make sure purlins are fixed to wall at each ends, also fix rafters to studwork which runs either side of roof then you can cut cross bracing and reinstate it
higher up.
