Can we repoint from the bottom to the top of the house?

by Abi B » Tue Aug 25, 2020 8:29 am

HI,

We need to repoint our stone house (1830) as hard cement has been used and we have damp issues. To keep costs down we want to repoint ourselves. My question is, can we repoint from the bottom up and if not why not? We have damp issues at the bottom so want to get that done first. it also means we can get a lot of it done before needing to hire scaffolding.
I have read some things that say you can do the the first meter at the bottom, but then should do top down. There isn't much I can find on this so any help would be fantastic.

Thanks,
Abi

Hi abi_b
Can't see any reason why you should not re-point starting from the bottom working upwards, in fact this may be better because you will stabilise the lower levels as you work upwards.
