Angle grinder is the easiest for access, don't try to cut first cut as the final cut. As you do get some where it'll break where it hits weak spot.

It's always best to cut abit longer so that you have a second chance if needed (for example don't try to cut level with a wall or floor because if it's breaks your knackered).

Would a reciprocating saw help?

Failing that, rap a hacksaw blade in a rag to protect your hands and carefully proceed with cut.(If possible try to cut all the way round the out side of the pipe first without actually breaking through).

if you must use an angle grinder, i'd suggest wearing body armour, a helmet and a visor! if its in a corner and it shatters (either the cast iron pipe or the cutting blade) then the shrapnel is going to get thrown straight at you. take great care when cutting cast iron with a grinder.

Replace the cast iron with plastic pipe. Apart from costing you a little more you will be able to do this in less time that cutting the cast.
