Ceiling light loop wiring

by Tommo » Wed Oct 01, 2008 5:29 pm

In the original wiring I have one red permanent live, 2 red loop wires, 1 black neutral, and 2 earth wires twisted together. In the new light fitting I only have the normal 3 terminals, live neutral and earth. I first of all wired the new light, in the normal way, but left out the 2 loop wires. The light stays on, and won't turn off at the switch, I have tried all sorts of combinations with no success. Where DO the loop wires go? Help!

Permanent line is one of the loop wires which will connect to other loop wire and not to lamp.
The switch wire should connect to the lamp with the neutral.
The loop wires don't go anywhere just connect together.
http://www.ericpalmer.fsnet.co.uk/Lighting.html shows a number of diagrams as to how connected as does the projects section does this help?
