Central Bracket For Heavy Shelf in Plasterboard

by barns123 » Wed Jun 10, 2020 11:40 am

Hi,

I am fixing a heavy wooden shelf to hold heavy things on a plasterboard wall.

The brackets won't line up with studs, and I was originally planning to use m5 spring toggles to fix it to the plasterboard, however worry that they will be inaccurate to place and I will end up with a wonky shelf.

I can position the shelf so there is a stud directly in the middle of the shelf. Would it be advisable to fix an additional central bracket into the stud to bear most of the weight and then fix the two end brackets into the plasterboard for support and symmetry?

Thanks

Hi barns123
Yes for stability fit a central bracket. The plasterboard fixings which look like a corkscrew are good for fixing into plasterboard but do not tighten the central screw too much.
