Change of use of Adjoining Shed to Communal Storage Area

by terrycharlton » Tue Feb 10, 2015 9:46 am

I have an apartment on the first floor and the landlord wants to change the use of the shed adjoining my apartment into a communal storage area it was originally a bin store. The shed is approx 1.25m x 5m.

I would like to know what has to be done to do this and will building regs apply.

The shed at present has no lighting is connected to my apartment by lathe and plaster walls and my gas meter is in the shed. Any advice or information as to where I can get the required information would be greatly appreciated

Attached is a picture of the layout of part of the apartment

Hi Terry,
You can find information about change of use guidelines here (although I cannot see them being affected with this change) :http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/changeofuse/.

Building Regulations apply to structural work, and as this sounds like simply a slight change of use, they are unlikely to be affected. For more information about planning permission and building regulations for out buildings have a look at this page: http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permis ... buildings/
