Cold Water on Then A Bang

by whitesoxuk » Tue Nov 18, 2008 2:05 pm

Hi, I have a problem with my cold water. When I turn on my cold water tap or flush the toilet there is a single bang like a thumping noise.

It only seems to happen when turning on the cold water, my boiler is a Ideal Mini S system with a Telford tempest cylinder. I have no water storage tanks in my loft.

My water pressure has also been reduced, but hot water is still avaliable. Any one any ideas I have no clue what so ever so any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi
is it only happening on one particular tap or all taps
if its one tap then the tap or parts off need replacing
it sounds like a shock wave being caused by the rapid stop of moving water

Try turning your mains water stopcock down a little.

if u have a problem with the cold water, then it dont matter bout the boiler make etc. It could be something simple as water hammer. U'l still get hot water cos this will be from the cylinder and tanks so the flow wont change. this could to do the pipes not been clipped correctly on your pipework ad it moving due to mains pressure. it wont make noise wen turning on hot water cos the pressure wont b high (because of head of water pressure etc.)
