Confused about chimney capping

Post by alanandlyn » Wed Feb 11, 2009 6:55 pm

I have been researching various sites covering advice about capping chimneys and am still a little confused over the best course of action.

I have four chimneys, none are in use as a flue.

My confusion relates to capping them, and how?

1) Take off the chimney pots and cement over the hole.

2) Fit a device like a Rain Top - for example:

3) Fit a redundant flue cap - example:

4) Do nothing, which is what most people round here seem to have done

Any advice, suggestions and recommendations gratefully received.

alanandlyn,
You must keep the flues ventilated or you will get all sorts of damp problems. The pepperpot flue caps give a neat finish but do need sealing onto the chimney pots.
