consumer units

my consumer unit trips out every three to four hours i have disconnected allsystems on one at atime bases but it still happens could i have faulty consumer unit

hi ft , more likely to be the rcd than whole consumer unit , but sounds more like earth leakage problem , will have to investigate by ellimination as to where the fault lies , . An electrician will be able to do ramp test and rcb test to to eleiminate rcd . Cheers jeff

hi ft again just as a matter of interest is it raining when it trips. ? 2 have you any outside lights . Reason being if you get moisture in lights or sockets ,this would or could cause an earth leakage which will cause rcd to trip .Interesting keep in touch Jeff

Hi, unlikely, when did this start? what type of unit is it, ie RCD main sw. or split load ?
If latter, are neutrals on right half of board, ie same 1/2 as Lives?
Unfortunately fault could be cumelative, ie more than 1 faulty circuit / appliance so unless all circuits disconnected at same time difficult to find without insulation tester 'megger'

Hi,Jeffmo many thanks for your time and advice, so far i have two thirds of my units back in line and so far so good as you said a process ofellimination as for the out side light it is disconnected at cons-unit many thanks again ftg

Hi sparx, this started last Wednesday evening at about 7pm the unit i have is a wylex with rcd main switch i am putting my appliances back in line one at time so i should find the duff one with a bit of luck many thanks for your advice and time ftg
