Dealing with and capping a fireplace

Postby berimitsu » Thu Mar 02, 2023 9:25 pm

Not entirely sure if this is the most appropriate forum for my question but there doesn’t seem to be an obvious choice.

Recently exposed a fireplace in a 1850-ish terraced house. The plan is for a plasterer to tidy up the aperture and chimney breast. No plans to install wood burner but may do in the future.

I’m interested to know if and how I should go about capping the fireplace. I imagined installing a vented register plate but perhaps there’s a better solution? Any advice welcome.

Thanks

Hi berimitsu,
Fit a weatherproofing cap on the top of the chimney and stuff a pillow/cushion up the hearth throat until you decide on a wood burner.
