I am building a small hipped roof on an extension using old reclaimed clay tiles to match the house. I've got the tiles and the bonnets but no tile and halves. Could anyone tell me if there is any reason why I shouldn't just use half tiles on the back gable?
Trying to fix half tiles is almost impossible and it will lead to leaks as the tile is designed to use whole.
Look at the way it is designed to shed water.
If you must do it, put them in the middle of the rows.
And fit a sheet of aluminium under each, large enough to carry the rain into the middle of the tiles on either side.
Done carefully the aluminium won't show.
