the flush works ok but the fill is soooooooo slow, could anyone give a suggestion or two as to why this is so ??

Ruathatu,
Nothing to do with the dudley siphon its the ball valve causing the problem. Check the ball valve - see if it's partially blocked, if it's got the correct nozzle in it, if flow to the valve is OK.
