economics of gas central heating

has anyone done a test to see if it is cheaper to leave heating on 24/7 at a temperature of 18 degrees.
or to put onto a timer system coming on and off twice a day. I can never work it out, can you help.

Hi Jean,

To be honest - I think there are too many variable factors that contribute to the end result.
Such as insulation values, cavity walls, double glazing, building materials etc.
The only thing I can suggest is - perform your own test and compare, but the weather won't be constant ....will it? 8)

Of course it also depend on the temperature you are going to heat the house to twice a day.
