Electric oven and hob

by Hutch4m » Sun May 20, 2007 7:00 pm

I've just purchased a new electric oven and electric ceramic hob and I am in the process of fitting it. I originally had a gas hob and an electric oven. My question is this: Can I connect the new oven, which has a max power output of 2.77Kw, into the socket which provided the ignition for the gas hob? It has a 13amp fuse and I think it's 1.5mm cable. Also can I connect the hob to the old oven socket? The hob has a max output of 5510Kw and it looks llike the socket is 4mm cable.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Jeff, I've tried the oven and it seems to be working fine. I'm pretty sure the cooker MCB is 32A (I'm at work at the mo so I can't check) and the hob would never draw that much.

Should be fine,

Thanks for the reply.

I've checked the cable and it looks like 6mm so with a 32A fuse (MCB) that sounds right. I'm going to go for it, what's the worst that can happen!?!
