electrical problems with Hotpoint FDW80 dishwasher

by nova15 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 1:31 pm

Hi everyone.
My electrics kept tripping the other day.An electrician was sent out to check why.He pinpointed the problem as my dishwasher. He said it had very little resistance to earth when he checked the plug with a piece of equipment.
Could someone please explain what this means and how it can be rectified !!
Thanks

Presuming disconnecting dishwasher cleared problem trips then there are a number of reasons,
However the tests he did could be misleading.
Most equipment now has to have mains filters fitted for interferance suppression which connect Live to earth & neutral to earth via capacitors & chokes, without getting into too much theory they are not 'seen' by the house supply as they are 'tuned' to mains frequency, but insulation testers (meggers) as used by electricians work on D.C. & will show a low reading on the supply flex.
If filter network is problem they are not expensive but you need a domestic appliance repairer to supply & fit, try to find a local recommended firm, regards SPARX
