Wonder if anyone can help me with a hugely annoying problem.
We have a european "top flush" toilet (huge mistake).
For the last week we have noticed that every 5 minutes or so the toilet cistern sounds like it's filling up, only to stop abruptly (with a huge noise) about 5 seconds later.
Got so bad that I had to turn the water off to the toilet at midnight last night cuz it was keeping me awake.
Its possibly because the float is set too high and water is overflowing into the pan. So the water level drops and the cistern refills. Adjust the height of the float and it should be OK.
The huge bang sounds like water hammer - these valves shut very fast. You can reduce this by throttling back the flow at the service valve.
I would say these were two separate problems.
If this was fitted recently your installer should have known to adjust to ensure it doesn't happen. I'd get him back.
