Ext Door Lock position for New Front Door

Postby SteveLud » Sun Mar 13, 2022 11:44 am

Hi,
I’m fitting a new front door with long steel handles inside and out that cover where a yale type lock and barrel would normally go. I have room to put the lock and barrel in the door frame and then put the latch plate in the door. Is there any reason why I can’t do this or adversely affects the security?

Hi stevelud,
No your proposal will not work because the latching will be the wrong way round. You may be able to use a roller type latch but you’ll have to look at the geometry to see if locking will work without having to retract the bolt first.

Ah! That might not be very secure then! Took me a while to ‘get it’, but you’re right! Thanks!
