I have moved my toilet upstairs to another location.
The external soil stack is now basically useless. I still want to be able to connect my 40mm basin and shower waste. Can i run these down straight to IC on ground floor or do i still need the external soil pipe.
I want to get rid of this bulky pipe as only basin and shower waste are being connected. Thanks.
No. You must keep the stack if it is the only one for the property. Removing it may cause problems with the flow of water through the pipes. It may result in airlocks which block flow and odours which may escape inside the house.
The soil stack is not just for carrying waste away it is a release for the foulair that collects in the system. This is why the stackgoes right upto the roof and is called a soli AND vent pipe. You cannot get rid of it without approvalfrom the Building Control department of your localcouncil otherwise you are changing the drainage layout of your property which is covered by regs. There are lots of pages with huge amount of information about house drainage on the main website. While we monitor the forum regualrly we concentrate on answering questions for which the answer does not appear on the website soI'msorry you have had to wait some time.
