Finding cartridge for a Blanco tap ...

Post by mike_bike_kite » Mon Jun 01, 2020 1:21 pm

The tap in my kitchen is 15 years old and needs a new cartridge. Unfortunately Blanco don't seem to stock cartridges for older taps (brilliant!). They said all taps apparently have different cartridges so I can't just use an alternative (insane!). Do all tap supplies do this? Is there anything I can do?

Replacing the tap is a major operation as the plumbing in that area is quite complex and requires various cabinets to be taken apart etc.

I'm told the tap is a Blanco Lido BM1040. Not sure if that helps.

Any help appreciated.

Hi mbk
You need to remove the cartridge and see if you can find a replacement on line. Your search will bring up a number of suppliers who sell a range of different cartridges - make sure you measure careful.

The problem is to remove the cartridge I need to turn the water off for the house. I can see the wife allowing me to just change the cartridge but not to have the water off for days while I wait for a new cartridge :)

Is it still possible to buy mixer taps that just use tap washers? these cartridges seem to be a bit counter productive (and costly).

Hi mbk,
Yes standard mixer taps are available, you'll probably have to have cross heads and you'll need to check they are full turn operation (or similar wording).

Many thanks.
I'll look for a tap like that for the replacement.
Have a good day.
