Fitting a new ceiling light.

by Alan Harris » Mon Jan 07, 2008 3:08 pm

I wish to fit a new ceiling light but am unable to due to there being three wires of the same colour ie white. together with a yellow earth wire. There are no markings on the wires. Can anyone explain the procedure.

White! what country are you in? This forum is for the UK. There are pictures etc showing how in the projects section but colours are for UK. i.e. Red/Brown live all times except for switch wire. Black/Blue return/neutral sometimes there will be red or brown sleeve where a black/blue is used as switch wire which have been known to fall off. Bare or green/yellow (both colours) earth should not be bare but sleeves have been known to fall off. Main thing is always identify the switch wire before doing any work as it may be same colour as return/neutral. But as you can see no white wires! I think the US use white but they have completely different system.
