Fitting a wc to an old clay sewer pipe.

Post by woodlee1 » Tue Sep 09, 2008 3:45 pm

I am fitting a new WC. Problem is that sewer pipe is clay with a collar coming through and proud of floor by about 2" . New wc will not fit over collar. Can it be cut off, if so how? what tools should I use. What is the danger of breaking clay pipe when doing this?

Yes you can cut the collar off, but it needs to be done with an angle grinder fitted with a stone cut wheel. IF you try an knock it off you will crack the pipe further down.

Are you sure you cannot fit the pan and fill the gap left with a weak mixture of cement?
