Fix detached and damaged wood frame window

Postby ad85 » Sun Oct 17, 2021 1:42 pm

Hello All,
Hoping you can please advise on a broken window frame issue - pictures and video attached.

The window frame is wooden and 2 way opening, it fell on its vertical and came off from the hinges from about 1 meter to the ground. The window itself is in tact but damage was taken to the wooden frame on the top and around the side of the frame. Also blinds were fitted in as well around the window and they have become detached.

i have found a few carpenters who said they can fix this but before doing so i just wanted to check on the best type of trades people to fix this type of issue and what else i should consider or check before accepting the offer as i want the window frame fixed and refitted to be working as it was, some people i have rung (who are more window fitters) have said have this replaced a couple have said they can do this based on the pictures sent.

The cost of repair i am being quoted is £300 to £400.

Really appreciate any thoughts and help, thanks.

Hi ad85
Renovating a damaged wood frame is unlikely to be successful in the longer term, probably best to replace it with a upvc one.
