Flat roof guardrails need replacing, how do I loosen felt?

Post by bigtone » Tue May 19, 2009 2:46 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if you can help me. I have a flat roof that is used as a roof terrace and there are wooden posts used as guardrails. These need to be replaced but the felt has upstands around the base of the posts. The posts are inserted into metal bases that bolt up. I need to unbolt the posts but the felt is covering the bolts. How do I ease the felt away so that I can get to the bolts. Do I need to heat it to make it more pliable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

bigtone,
You will probably have to cut away the existing upstands, fit the new posts and then form new upstands.
end
