Gas Hob - Legal dimensions from window

What is the LEGAL minimum distance required from a window. I have had several answers from different tradesmen. HELP!!

The regulations regarding gas hobs/cookers next to windows tend to focus more on the window coverings eg curtains and state that the hob should be no less than 300mm from the window edge. For obvious reasons like curtains wafting in the wind and catching fire.

However I do not know anyone that has curtains in their kitchen.

That's the regs, just use abit common sense really, Other concern would be the effect the draught from the window will have on the flames if left open.
