help lifting a manhole cover

by chookie » Tue Mar 23, 2010 10:20 am

I need to access a drainage system to unblock blockage. The manhole cover i have is rectangular with two circular (approx 10cm diameter) indentations either side but no "key holes" that i can see as such.
Can anyone offer any advice on how best to raise such a manhole?

The type is similar to as on this guide

Google "ultimatehandyman.co.uk/plumbing_DRAIN_UNBLOCKING.htm"

the circles should have a bar that runs through the middle of them, a claw hammer will safely lift it

thanks for response. The circles dont have a bar through them, they are just circular resesses. Any ideas? Or do i just go for the spade option?
