Hi rise monobloc tap and no hot water

Post by Lydialala » Mon Dec 21, 2020 2:30 pm

Hi, I've recently moved. The bathroom sink has a high rise monobloc tap. It only has cold water coming out of it, I wondered if there's any obvious reason this might be?
Hot water is fine in the bath, shower and the kitchen, so it's not an airlock or the hot water itself. I'm fairly sure it's the tap that's the problem.
New to DIY but prepared to give it a go and fix it myself.
Any ideas would be great, thanks. Lydia

Hi lydialala
If it has never worked it may be turned off at a valve under the sink.

Hi, thank you. I've only been here 2 1/2 weeks, but it's not worked in that time. The water flow decreases and stops when you turn the tap to the hot side, but hot water doesn't come out at all, even at a trickle.

It may be easier to just replace the tap.

Thanks, Lydia

Hi lydialala
The symptoms you describe are an air lock, it is very unlikely to be the tap. If you have a wet vac try opening the tap and sucking the spout. If you can get a mains fed hose to the tap use this to blow back the air lock but expect to get wet! Replacing the tap will probably sort the problem because the system will have to be drained down but if you have an airlock now it is likely to happen again even with a new tap.
