Hot water heating

by pk_reid » Thu Apr 30, 2009 8:39 pm

Hi

Our old house use to have a combi boiler but our new house has a Potterton Suprema boiler and storage tank. There is no thermostat on the tank so when the heating is on it also heats the water. Fitted a new controller so can now heat water or water and heating. This seems to use a lot of gas though. Have been told that you can fit a valve to stop heating water and heating at the same time. Is this true and will it cost an arm and a leg? Will I need to run another control cable from the valve to the controller as well?

Phil.

It seems to me that your system needs upgrading from your description not only to include a tank stat but also a three port motorised valve. Perhaps you have a gravity hot water system. Just fitting a different programmer wont help without that valve.

I'd suggest you call a plumber or two to quote.

Cheers
