Hot water venting out from overflow

by da51dbr0wn » Fri Nov 28, 2008 11:42 am

Every time my thermostat switches off the hot water the system vents hot water out of the vent. The temprature of my hot water is also scalding hot.

Any advice please

Steve,

Thanks for the reply.

I have done as you requested and it is worse, in that it occours more frequently.

Type of system ?

Make/model of boiler ?

If it's a gravity HW system - replace boiler stat.

Htg,

The boiler is a Potterton Flamingo 50,

I am assuming it is a gravity fed system, as it is not on a pressurised ring main.

Off to the attic and down to the plumbing suppliers tommorrow for a new thermostat.

Am I right in assuming the following:

Switch of the electricity at the mains,

Switch off the boiler,

Drain down

Replace the part,

Reverse the proceedure.

I'm pretty sure it will be a gravity HW system.
So what are you going into the attic for ? immersion maybe ?
- that's not the boiler stat.

Drain system ? not normally necessary to change boiler stat, as the phial will sit in a dry pocket.
