How Best to Lay Driveway Slabs?

by Adrian2121 » Mon Apr 27, 2020 12:57 pm

Hiya
So my driveway is sloping away from my garage, I've dug out an even 300mm down, I'm now in the process of filling it with type 1 compacted sub-base, leaving roughly 100mm-150mm from my finish level. (Just using up the remaining hardcore)

I've got some large, 50mm thick, concrete slabs I'm going to lay down and then the rest will just be gravel around it.

The question is how best to lay these? It is better to put a layer of sharp sand down and then the slabs ontop, or should I use morter to put them in place, and if so should I still put a layer of sharp sand down. Or is there a better way?

For full disclosure I've never laid slaslbs before or done anything of this kind so any information would be great.

Thanks Adrian

Hi adrian2121
Since it is a driveway you should bed the slabs on a full bed of weak sharp sand / cement mix.
