How do I fit a phone plug?

by SB » Mon Mar 31, 2008 6:29 pm

I need to put a plug onto the end of a phone wire so I can plug it into the socket on the wall but I have no idea how, can anyone help me?

The cable has been cut off (God knows why) just before it enters the socket and there are no wires showing, presumably I need to strip the cable back? Once I've done do the wires just fit into the plug? The only 'how to' pages I've found online only show how to wire wall sockets which seem to have variously coloured paris of wires, is the lead anything like that?

The plugs I bought have a plastic 'insertion tool' - what do I do with it?!

Thanks

Most phone plugs have an anvil with them to allow crimping onto lead. There is also a special crimp tool but the anvil and vice grips or small vice normally works. If two wire not too bad as one in from each side pins 2 and 5 but if three or more sorry can't help.
