how many appliances off one double socket?

by june alison » Wed Dec 03, 2008 12:49 pm

Hi, I have just bought a new electric fire (2kw max) and my husband is going to plug it into an existing double socket which has the TV and digital box plugged into it, we will obviously need a two pin plug to have all three on at once, please let me know if this is ok or not - when I asked him this, he said ''course it is!!' but im not sure! thanks.

The 13 amp socket was designed for heating and yes you can use it to do what it was designed for. You would not though want to double up on heating appliances and I would not use any multi-adaptor with the fire but plugged into one side of a double socket while other side provides TV etc is not a problem. I would from time to time unplug and inspect for burning any lose wires can over heat but there is normally a tell tail smell and discolouring of the plastic so one normally gets plenty of warning if anything wrong.
