how to remove rcd from Wylex

Post by sk178ta » Tue Mar 01, 2011 9:33 am

Flickering light circuit then no lights was traced to a loose positive going into the top of the 6a RCD in my Wylex unit. It seems the arcing has damaged the terminal and I want to replace the RCD. I thought you just loosened the screws and pulled it out but it won`t. Am I missing something?

Hi sk178ta

The top screw supplies the power from the RCD to the circuit and just clamps onto the live feed
The bottom screw clamps onto the live busbar and supplies power to the RCD
So after loosening both screws,
Have a look at the base of the RCD, right at the back and you should see a small tab with a slot in it. Put a flat bladed screwdriver in this and pull down, whilst pulling the RCD towards you and up

This tab locks the RCD onto a rail in side the consumer unit

Hope that this helps
