How to tell if phone wiring in use!?

by Charlotte_G » Sat Jan 01, 2022 12:16 pm

I have 2 boxes with an assortment of wiring below them, of the 2 wires heading right in photo 1 - only 1 wire (the narrower one, on the bottom right hand side of photo) seems to go off to feed more modern box where our router is plugged in. I assume therefore it’s all needed? Any advice gratefully received! Many thanks!

If you want to know which cables are still in use you are going to have to get someone in to check for you. Sadly it is not possible to tell just by looking at a cable if it is working or not. Try looking in the local paper for a "Telecoms" engineer, you do NOT need an electrician.

An acknowledgement that you have read this post is always appreciated.

50 volt is normally used for a telephone, between 2 and 5, but to measure not so easy, with that mess, likely right hand one as latter design.
