Indian Sandstone old block paving base?

Postby chrisofle » Sat Oct 08, 2022 1:47 pm

Hi,
I have an old block paving patio that I will be replacing with Indian Stand stone paving.
My question is after removing the old block paving do I remove the 45mm depth of existing sharp sand, or can I lay the sandstone on mortar on the existing sharp sand?
(there is an existing sub base under the existing sharp sand that seems fine)
Appreciate any help or advise.
Many Thanks.
Chris

Hi christofle,
I doubt anyone will give you the thumbs up to use the existing base especially if you will be laying smooth slabs.
Worst case scenario - do as you propose and if the slabs become uneven lift and relay them.
