I have just bought a 1930s house which has a new roof which is less than 5 years old. The loft has plywood screwed to the Inside of the rafters with no insulation between the plywood sheets and the black membrane. This must help insulate I guess but my question is should I take them off or are they ok to leave,as I have never seen this before. My intention is to lay another layer of the rolled insulation on the floor but not sure why plywood was screwed (5mm) to the inside of loft to the rafters Appreciate a little guidance
Hi glynholman, Leave the ply in place and increase the depth of insulation on the floor. The ply may have been added to protect the loft contents especially during a re-roof. Regards S
