kitchen ceiling light replacement.

by huggo » Wed Jan 06, 2010 5:00 pm

hi i am having problems with replacing main ceiling light in my kitchen,
the replacement light requires 1*live,1*neutral and 1*earth Easy.....
or so i thought.
My ceiling has 3*live all connected together,1*red sleeved black(I assume means live ) 2*black (neutral) and 1* earth.
I have tried to work it out but would love somebody to please help i feel such an idiot.

Hi, this is by far the most often asked question on here and throughout a working leckies lifetime!!!!!
There is a drawing under projects - wiring a light but,.....
once more ......
the 3 reds stay together in a spare connector block, not connected to light fitting at all.
the red sleeved black is the switched live to go to the live of light.
the 2 remaining blacks go to the neutral of the light.
the earths (which are probably 3 in one sleeve) go to earth on the light.

Ensure circuit dead when working on light as the 3 reds will be live with switch turned off!

regards Sparx
