Kitchen hot water tap won't stop!

by Kenny123 » Thu May 08, 2008 5:02 pm

I have a mixer tap in the kitchen and the hot water tap will not turn off. I have turned off stop cock at hot water tank and have taken tap off cold water side to see if I can notice any difference but I cannot see any. I am looking at a wee brass coloured 'cog' thing and wonder whether I unscrew the large nut at the bottom of the assembly and replace whole thing or is it something simpler???

Please help!

Kenny.

KENNY123,

THE BRASS COG THING IS THE END OF THE TAP VALVE SPINDLE!

THE LARGE NUT IS THE VALVE BODY INTO WHICH THE VALVE SPINDLE ASSEMBLY IS INSERTED!

IT IS LIKELY THAT THE VALVE NUT, SPINDLE AND BODY ARE SEIZING UP DUE TO GUNGE, LACK OF LUBRICATION AND/OR WEAR AND TEAR.

YES YOU UNDO THE FITTING BY UNSCREWING THE LARGE NUT, THEN YOU CAN EITHER CLEAN AND REPAIR OR REPLACE THIS ASSEMBLY.
(CHEAP ENOUGH TO BUY NEW).

ALDA.

Yes I'd replace the whole thing (its called the valve head by the way). Only a couple of quid.

Cheers
