Landing Light Wiring and Tripping After Changing Switch

by smitht3 » Sat Nov 24, 2018 2:18 pm

Hello,
I'm having a nightmare and can't for the life of me see where i'm going wrong.
I took a photo of the switch before but after putting a new one in it keeps tripping upstairs.
Hope someone can spot my error.
Thanks

In the UK there is no definitive "colour code" for lighting, so unless we can see the other picture you have taken (Then compare the two) the only advice anyone can offer is guess work.

When you say "it keeps tripping upstairs" I assume you mean the MCB for the upstairs lighting trips? if this is so, when does it trip, does it trip as soon as you turn on the MCB or does it trip when you operate the light switch?

Added extra images that hopefully show how it was set up previously.

Note in 'Upstairs_OLD' i took the photo after one of the wires (highlighted in blue circle)had come out.
My first mistake was assuming it came from COM with the other red (like downstairs).

Upstairs working after putting the red into L2 with the black.
Downstairs i have copied the image and now that cuts the power.

All sorted now.
A thoroughly unpleasant experience but got it.

The lose red wire in my Upstairs_OLD photo should have gone with the red in L2 next to the black and yellow.

Downstairs_OLD was correct so i mirrored it.
